Urinary System Lithiasis – diagnosis

Urinary System Lithiasis – diagnosis

Lithiasis’ diagnosis is largely subject to the patient’s symptoms and documented by laboratory results (stick urine, urinalysis), and imaging tests (NOK radiography,  renal/ cystic ultrasound, intravenous pyelography and CT urography).Urinary System Lithiasis - diagnosis

CT urography is not a routine exam but is preferable in patients who are bound to undergo ESWL, because with this we can know in advance if a stone can be fragmented or not.

In some cases you may have undergo special tests such as urea, creatinine, calcium, phosphorus, uric acid, hormonal control and urinalysis 24h, in order to investigate the cause of the stone.

After the diagnosis is completed and if expelled or the stone is removed, it is important to move into this analysis.

This is performed via qualitative analysis or by chromatography or by using polarized light microscopy which recognizes the crystalline structure of the stone (crystallographic analysis) or by studying the Roentgen diffraction ray.
